The vision of PICLU is to strengthen an internationally leading centre for research and competence development in process optimization and control. Founded in 2008, PICLU’s projects have been jointly financed by over 15 collaborating industry partners, the Swedish Foundation of Strategic Research and VINNOVA. In this thesis, we deal with aspects of linear model predictive control, or MPC for short.

The potential of predictive control in on-road applications is commonly assessed by first carrying out an optimal control study [1], [3] and then, from this, drawing the conclusion that this is as good as it can be, and with the help of predictive control only a part of this potential can be realized.
The same procedure is then repeated at each sampling in-stant, and the prediction horizon is shifted forward one step. Thereby the name receding horizon control.
